The Phanto Zone in Jim Corbett National Park, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30th December 2021, offers a unique and less commercialized experience compared to the other primary zones like Dhikala and Bijrani. This zone is part of the buffer area surrounding the core regions, making it a serene place to explore the wildlife and biodiversity of the park.
Located in the Division Forest Area, the Phanto Zone is on the periphery of the Jim Corbett National Park. It is not considered part of the park's core zones, but the forest area is the same, offering rich opportunities for wildlife sightings.
The Phanto Zone allows jeep safaris, with 50 jeeps permitted in the morning and 50 in the afternoon. The safari lasts for approximately 3 hours. Tourists must book safaris in advance at the Phato Entry Gate, located about 26 km from Ramnagar. Permits are issued at the gate, and confirmation can be obtained up to two days before the safari date.
The Phanto Zone is home to a variety of wildlife, including tigers, leopards, elephants, spotted deer, wild boars, and a range of bird species. It's a great spot for birdwatching and spotting endangered species.
Stay options in the Phanto Zone include a variety of guest houses and eco-tourism facilities, such as Tree Top Hideaway, Canopy Castle, Great Horn Bill, and others. These accommodations offer a unique experience of staying amidst nature.
Bookings are currently available offline at the Phato Entry Gate, but in the near future, bookings will be accessible through the government online booking portal. Make sure to plan your safari ahead of time, as availability can be limited.
The best time to visit the Phanto Zone is from November to June. The park is closed during the monsoon season (July to September) due to heavy rains.
