The Jhirna Zone, situated near the southern boundary of Jim Corbett National Park, is one of the most popular zones, known for its lush vegetation, diverse wildlife, and year-round accessibility.
Major Animals: Jhirna is famous for its population of sloth bears, leopards, deer, elephants, and wild boars. Tigers are occasionally spotted as well.
Birdlife: It’s a great zone for birdwatching, with a wide variety of migratory and resident birds.
Landscape: The area features dense forests, open grasslands, and riverbeds, making it an excellent habitat for diverse wildlife.
Location: The Jhirna Zone is accessed via the Dhela Gate, located approximately 15 km from Ramnagar, the entry hub of the park.
Open Year-Round: Unlike other zones, Jhirna remains open throughout the year, even during the monsoon season, as the terrain is suitable for safaris.
Jeep safaris are conducted twice daily and provide an excellent opportunity to explore the zone:
Morning Safari: 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM (timings may vary slightly by season)
Evening Safari: 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM
Booking: Safari permits should be booked in advance online, as slots are limited.
Forest Rest Houses (FRHs) are available in the Jhirna Zone for overnight stays, offering a unique experience close to nature. Advance bookings are mandatory.
While the zone is open all year, the best time to visit is from November to June, when wildlife sightings are more frequent, and the weather is favorable.
