Ramnagar, Uttarakhand
The Dhela Zone of Jim Corbett National Park is one of the newer eco-tourism zones, opened to visitors in 2014. It is part of the southern buffer area of the park and offers a unique combination of dense forests, grasslands, and water bodies, making it a rich habitat for diverse flora and fauna.
Major Animals: Home to tigers, leopards, elephants, deer (chital, sambhar), and sloth bears. It also has a rich birdlife, with over 200 species, making it a favorite for birdwatchers.
Reptiles: Reptiles like crocodiles and gharials can occasionally be spotted near water bodies.
The Dhela Zone has dense mixed forests with sal, rohini, and haldu trees, interspersed with grasslands, which provide grazing grounds for herbivores.
Jeep Safari: Visitors can explore the zone via jeep safari, which is conducted twice daily—morning and evening. Limited vehicle entry ensures the tranquility of the zone and a better wildlife experience.
The Dhela Zone is open throughout the year, including during the monsoon season when other zones might close. Located near the Dhela village, about 15 km from Ramnagar, it is easily accessible.
While Dhela Zone itself doesn’t have forest rest houses (FRHs), there are private accommodations and resorts near Ramnagar and the zone's entrance.
Advance booking is required to secure entry permits due to limited vehicle access. ID proof is mandatory for booking.
The Dhela Zone is perfect for those who enjoy a peaceful safari experience away from the crowds of more popular zones like Dhikala or Bijrani. Its year-round accessibility and focus on eco-tourism make it a favorite among wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.
